What is CBM?

CBM stands for "Cubic Meter" and is a unit of measurement for volume. It is commonly used in shipping and logistics to calculate cargo volume.

CBM = Length × Width × Height

If you have multiple identical items, multiply the CBM of one item by the quantity.

Example Calculation:

A box measuring 2m × 1.5m × 1m has a volume of:

2 × 1.5 × 1 = 3 CBM

Shipping Methods

Courier

Uses dimensional weight calculated as: Length(cm) × Width(cm) × Height(cm) ÷ 5000

Air Freight

Uses volumetric weight calculated as: CBM × 167

Sea Freight

Uses conversion factor: CBM × 1000 (1 CBM ≈ 1000 kg)

Weight Conversion

1 kg = 2.20462 lb
All weights are shown in both kilograms and pounds.

Unit Conversion Reference

Unit Conversion to Meters
Centimeter (cm) 1 cm = 0.01 m
Millimeter (mm) 1 mm = 0.001 m
Inch (in) 1 in = 0.0254 m
Foot (ft) 1 ft = 0.3048 m

🧮 CBM Calculator – The Fastest Way to Calculate Cubic Meters for Shipping

What is CBM?

CBM stands for Cubic Meter, a unit that measures the volume of cargo in international shipping.
It tells you how much space your shipment occupies inside a container or storage area.

In logistics and freight forwarding, calculating CBM is essential for:

  • Determining shipping costs

  • Optimizing container space

  • Planning efficient loading and storage

Simply put — CBM helps you save time, money, and space when shipping goods worldwide.

Why You Need a CBM Calculator

Calculating CBM manually can be slow and error-prone, especially if you handle multiple packages with different dimensions.
That’s why we built the CBM Calculator — a simple yet powerful online tool that instantly converts your length, width, and height into Cubic Meters (m³).

This tool is perfect for:

  • 🚢 Importers and exporters estimating freight volume

  • 🏭 Manufacturers and wholesalers planning shipment loads

  • 🏗️ Logistics and warehouse teams managing container capacity

  • 📦 Individuals shipping goods internationally by sea or air

The CBM Formula (Standard International)

The standard formula to calculate CBM is:

CBM=Length (cm)×Width (cm)×Height (cm)1,000,000\text{CBM} = \frac{\text{Length (cm)} \times \text{Width (cm)} \times \text{Height (cm)}}{1,000,000}

Example:

If your package size is 100 cm × 50 cm × 40 cm,
then CBM = (100 × 50 × 40) / 1,000,000 = 0.20 m³

If you have multiple packages, simply add all CBMs together to get the total shipment volume.

Key Features of the CBM Calculator

Fast & Accurate – Get precise results instantly, up to three decimal places.
User-Friendly – Clean interface, no technical skills required.
Automatic Conversion – Enter values in centimeters; the tool converts to cubic meters.
Completely Free – Use it anytime, with no restrictions or sign-ups.
Ideal for Logistics Use – Great for freight forwarding, warehousing, and shipping companies.

How to Use the CBM Calculator

  1. Enter the Length, Width, and Height of your package (in cm).

  2. Click “Calculate CBM” to get the result in cubic meters (m³).

  3. For multiple boxes, repeat the process and sum the results for total CBM.

Why CBM Matters in Shipping

CBM plays a major role in determining:

  • 💰 Freight cost (especially for sea and air shipping)

  • 🚛 Container type selection (20ft, 40ft, or 40HC)

  • 🏗️ Cargo loading efficiency

  • 📉 Reducing waste of container space

Many freight companies charge by volumetric weight — meaning your shipping cost depends on the CBM rather than the actual weight.
Accurate CBM calculation ensures you avoid overpaying and can plan shipments more effectively.

The CBM Calculator is an essential tool for anyone working in shipping, logistics, or international trade.
With just a few clicks, you can know exactly how much space your goods occupy — helping you plan, budget, and optimize your shipments with confidence.
