🎮 How to Play

Step 1: Configure Your Match Before the game begins, look at the control panel (on the right or below the board). You will see an overlay on the board saying “Ready?”.

  • Game Mode: Choose Player vs Computer or Player vs Player.

  • Difficulty: Select Easy for a relaxing game, or Hard if you want the AI to think deeply (approx. 1 second per move).

  • Play As: Choose White (moves first) or Black.

Step 2: Start the Game Click the green “Start Game” button. The board overlay will disappear, and the settings will lock.

Step 3: Make Your Move

  • Select: Click on a piece to pick it up. Valid moves will be marked with small dots (or rings for captures).

  • Move: Click the target square to place your piece.

  • History: Watch the panel on the right populate with your moves in real-time.

Step 4: Reset If the game ends or you want to change difficulty, click the red “Reset Game” button to unlock the settings.

💡 Quick Tips for Beginners

  • Control the Center: Try to place your pawns and knights in the center squares (e4, d4, e5, d5) early in the game.

  • Don’t Rush: If you are playing on “Hard” mode, the computer will punish mistakes. Take your time!

  • Watch the History: Learning notation (like Qxd5) helps you understand chess books and tutorials later on.
